Hobart Ecomax F504S undercounter dishwasher with integrated water softener

Which Hobart Models Have A Built-In Water Softener?

If you already know your kitchen needs a built-in water softener, this is the reference to work from. It lists every Hobart dishwasher and glasswasher on this site that comes with one built in, alongside its equivalent model without, so you can go straight to the exact model number to order rather than working it out from a product listing.

Across the range, a built-in softener is shown by an S in the model code, for example F504S, FXS or AMXS. On Profi and Premax glasswashers you'll also see ROI, which means integrated reverse osmosis rather than a softener, it does the same protective job in a different way, covered in its own section below.

Checking whether you need one

Water hardness varies by postcode, so it's worth checking with your local water supplier before you order, rather than guessing from the machine's location alone. Once you know your local water hardness, our team can talk you through whether the S (or ROI) variant is the right call for your site.

Glasswashers

Glasswashers follow the same S logic on Ecomax, Ecomax Plus and some Profi models. On Profi and Premax models built around reverse osmosis, you'll see ROI instead, and these don't have a separate S variant, the reverse osmosis system removes the minerals a softener would otherwise deal with.

Utensil washers

Three utensil washer models offer a built-in softener option, the UXS-10B, UXCS-10B and the UXRCS-10B. The rest of the utensil washer range needs an external water softener fitted alongside the machine instead, this is because these are larger, more powerful machines with a higher water volume than an internal softener unit is built to handle, an internal unit simply isn't large enough to soften that volume of water, so an external unit is fitted in its place where softening is needed.

UXCS-10B Built-in softener option available

Rack-type and flight-type machines

Rack-type, conveyor and flight-type dishwashers use a different letter system for their configuration codes, so rather than guess at what a specific code means on one of these, our team can confirm the right water treatment setup for your model and site directly.

Not sure which one you need?

Frequently asked questions

  • How do I know if a Hobart model has a built-in water softener?

Check for an S in the model code, for example F504S or AMXS. On some Profi and Premax glasswashers, ROI is used instead, meaning integrated reverse osmosis rather than a softener.

  • What's the difference between the S and ROI codes?

Both protect the machine from limescale and improve wash results in hard water, but they work differently. S means an integrated water softener. ROI means integrated reverse osmosis, which removes minerals from the water rather than softening it. Models with ROI don't also have an S variant.

  • Do utensil washers come with a built-in softener?

Three models do, the UXS-10B, UXCS-10B and the UXRCS-10B. The rest of the utensil washer range needs an external softener instead, because these are larger, more powerful machines with a water volume too high for an internal softener unit to handle.

  • Can I add a water softener later if I order the standard model?

An external softener can usually be added afterwards, but it's simpler and often more cost-effective to order the built-in S or ROI variant from the start if you already know your site has hard water.

  • How do I check my water hardness before ordering?

Check with your local water supplier, who can tell you the hardness for your postcode. Once you have that figure, our team can help you decide whether the softened or standard model is right for your site.
